Building Science Corporation is a building science
consulting firm with offices in Boston, Massachusetts and
Waterloo, Ontario and clients throughout North America.
Building Science Corporation specializes in building
technology consulting. Our focus is preventing and resolving
problems related to building design, construction and operation.
We are internationally recognized for our expertise in moisture
dynamics, indoor air quality, and forensic (building failure)
investigations. We are also on the leading edge of the design of
sustainable communities and buildings. We believe in promoting

Principals

Joseph Lstiburek, Ph.D., P.Eng., is a principal of
Building Science Corporation and an ASHRAE Fellow. He has
twenty-five years of experience in design, construction,
investigation, and building science research. Through the
Department of Energy's Building America program, Dr. Lstiburek
has forged partnerships with designers, builders, developers,
materials suppliers and equipment manufacturers to build higher
performance homes across the U.S.

John Straube, Ph.D., P.Eng., is a principal of
Building Science Corporation and a professor of building science
in the Civil Engineering Department and School of Architecture
at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Dr. Straube has acted as
an educator, researcher, consultant and expert witness on energy
efficiency, durability and IAQ. Current interests include the
optimal system design of buildings, sustainable buildings, and
moisture problem avoidance.

Betsy Pettit, FAIA, is the president of Building
Science Corporation and is a registered architect with over 25
years of professional experience. Prior to joining Building
Science Corporation, she was a project architect/project manager
for several Boston architectural firms where she was responsible
for the design, production and/or renovation of over 2,000 units
of housing, and several area office and commercial buildings.
Ms. Pettit has contributed to many procedural and technical
manuals and papers published in building journals and elsewhere.

Armin Rudd, principal engineer at Building Science
Corporation since 1999, Armin Rudd conducts analysis, design,
inspection, research and development of building mechanical
systems and building envelopes. His activities focus on the
overall production homebuilding industry and commercial building
moisture investigations. Researcher Award in 1997 from the
University of Central Florida, Institute and Centers. He holds
nine U.S. patents including three HVAC control products and six
metal-wood framing members.

Christopher Schumacher is recognized as an expert in
the field of building monitoring and building systems and
enclosure testing. He has lead the design, installation and
analysis of monitoring systems for 15 building enclosure test
facilities, 6 test building sites, 3 climate chambers and 2
sustainable building technologies demonstration projects in over
a dozen states and countries as far abroad as Mongolia and New
Zealand.

Associates

Peter Baker is responsible for providing design review
of building enclosure drawings and specifications, and
construction site inspections and testing. He is continuing work
in the development of recommended construction details for
residential building enclosures. Peter is also working on
providing systems engineering analysis for high energy
efficiency homes under the Building America Program.

Stephanie Finegan has a background in industrial
design that includes product design, graphics and desktop
publishing. Her work at Building Science Corporation includes
illustrating the series of Builder's Guides for heating, cooling
and mixed climates, and producing a number of publications for
authors through Building Science Press. She is involved in our
website layout and design, creating presentation materials and a
logo/identity package and other promotional and printed pieces.

Katie Gunsch, LEED® AP, is a project architect
involved in developing innovative designs, building interactive
3D models, updating building details as well as monitoring
construction of high performance homes part of the Building
American Program. Through all phases of a project, Katie strives
for the highest level of collaboration and communication between
all involved disciplines.

Philip Kerrigan, Jr., PE, is a systems engineer at
Building Science Corporation. Phil analyses residential
buildings and applies high performance energy principles and
metrics to the designs. His work involves reviewing plans,
providing HERS ratings through computerized takeoffs, and
optimizing the HVAC systems in homes. Collectively, this work
determines if and how buildings meet energy efficiency
standards.

Alex Lukachko, LEED® AP, as an architectural designer,
researcher and project manager at Building Science Corporation,
is involved in and responsible for a wide variety of projects.
His Master's of Architecture thesis examined the context for
sustainable design. This background is put to use in everything
from papers on sustainable design policy and practice; the
development of training materials; and the application of green
principles to BSC design and research projects.

Aaron Townsend's activities have focused on methods
and strategies to reduce residential energy consumption in both
production- and custom-built homes while maintaining high levels
of building durability. Specifically, Aaron performs analysis
and design of building mechanical systems and building
envelopes, as well as research and development in the areas of
mechanical systems; building envelope assemblies; solar-PV and
solar-thermal technologies; and lighting and plug-loads.
