Software Installation Guide

You will need the following equipment, software and settings:

  • 100% IBM compatible 386 or later computer.
  • Minimum of 4 MB of RAM (8-16 MB would be better).
  • A hard disk drive with a minimum of 7MB of free space.
  • VGA Monitor (works best in standard VGA mode).
  • Windows 3.1 running in enhanced mode or Windows 95

Installing Energy Smart Pools Software

  1. Print out this page by selecting file/print from your browser menu.
  2. Click on Download Energy Smart Pools Software Now!
  3. The file you will download is espsoft.exe. It is a self extracting file. Download the file to a temporary directory like c:\temp.
  4. The download process will take some time so be patient.
  5. When the file is downloaded, go to the place where you saved the file on your hard drive and double click on the espsoft.exe file.
  6. A dialog box will appear. Click on the Setup button.
  7. The Energy Smart Pools Setup window appears with a suggested directory and program group. If you want to install the software in a different directory or group, type the name of the directory and/or select the desired group. Click Continue when ready.
  8. When you receive the message that you have installed the Energy Smart Pools software correctly, click OK.
  9. You will find the icon or shortcut to launch the program in the program folder that you selected. The setup files will be automatically deleted.

Printing the Energy Smart Pools Instruction Manual

The Energy Smart Pools Instruction Manual and a file containing the program assumptions are saved on the installation disk and will be copied to your hard drive in the installation process. To get a printed copy of the Manual and/or the program assumptions:

  1. Open Windows Write for Windows 3.1 or WordPad for Windows 95 (usually found in the Accessory group)
  2. Select File Open and select the directory that stores the Energy Smart Pools software (usually c:\pools). Two files should show up: MANUAL.WRI & ASSUMPT.WRI. Select and click OK.
  3. To print the file, select File, Print, OK. A copy of the file you selected will be printed on your Windows default printer.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other file if desired.

This software is no longer supported by the U.S. Department of Energy. It is distributed "as is". The Energy Smart Pools Software can be duplicated and freely distributed.
